NIGER STATE: Farmer Governor Bago Visits Scene, Addresses Community Leaders And Members.
Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has paid a condolence visit to the people of Essa, Katcha local government area of the state, over the tanker explosion that claimed many lives and left several others injured.
The farmer governor, who was at the scene of the incident in Essa for an on-the-spot assessment, thereafter addressed the leaders and the people of the community.
He commiserated with the people over the loss of their loved ones and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured who are receiving treatment at various health facilities in Bida and Abuja.
The farmer governor, who frowned at the attitude of people rushing to scoop content from a fallen tanker, said that the government will not condone such acts anymore.
"We came here to commiserate with them over the loss of lives and to also talk to their conscience. It is a terrible thing that a truck will fall and the people of the community will carry containers to scoop. It is theft and must be addressed as such, and we can't condone or encourage it," he stressed.
He acknowledged that the roads are bad, but people should not see it as an avenue to do wrong instead of making efforts to rescue the driver and other passengers of the truck.
The farmer governor urged them to always strive towards contributing to the development of the nation and focus on the farming that they are known for.
He then announced a donation of N1m to families of each of the deceased victims and N500,000 to each of the injured victims receiving treatment.
The farmer governor also revealed that the president of Dangote Group, Alh. Aliko Dongote, has reached out to the state government, promising to fix the road from Mokwa-Lambata, and that work will commence as soon as possible.
He said the state government will build a new primary healthcare center in Essa Community to cater for their health needs.
The member representing the Bida/Gbako/Katcha federal constituency, Saidu Musa Abdullahi, appreciated the quick response of the farmer governor on the disaster and appealed to the people to be patient and desist from scooping fuel from fallen trucks to avoid loss of lives and property.
Chairman of Katcha Local Government Council, Zubairu Mohammed Essa, described the assistance the state government has been rendering to victims of the disaster as
tremendous, especially the free medical services, and that the people of Katcha remain very grateful for the gesture.
The Village Head of Badeggi, Muhammad Abdullahi Sanda, and the District Head of Essa, Muhammad Daudu, in their separate remarks, commended the farmer governor for always addressing the plight of the people and assured him of their continued support
