
MINNA: A ‘serial killer and notorious kidnap kingpin’ has been arrested by the police in Niger State.
The suspect, a 40-years-old Bashiru Abdullahi was arrested in Kontagora, Kontagora local government area of Niger State.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun said that the suspect confessed to having killed his brother in March this year after he suspected that the deceased had swindled him of over N70 million they contributed to carry out a business.
The suspect also confessed to have been planning to kidnap two of his debtors, whom he claimed were both owing him over N7 million.
“The suspect was arrested at Kontagora on the above-mentioned date when he was planning and making effort to recruit armed men needed to perpetuate his usual kidnapping escapades.
“During interrogation, Bashiru confessed that he planned to kidnap a former Local Government Council Chairman of Mariga and the father of a former Commissioner in the State.
“He claimed that the former Chairman owed him a sum amount of N5.8 million and that if the Chairman is kidnapped, he intends to realize N10 million ransom from him.
“He further confessed that part of his plan was to equally kidnap the father of the former Commissioner whom he owes about N1.3 million from a business transaction between them while he was expecting to get N15 million ransom from the plan.
“Further investigation revealed that sometimes in March 2022, the said Bashiru was suspected to have murdered his younger brother Alh. Mamuda Abdullahi aged 35yrs ‘m’ of Bangi.
“When he was interrogated, he confessed to the act that he contributed money with his brother to the tune of N75 million for a business purpose, but he suspected that his brother swindled him and he hit him with a stick on the head which resulted to his death.
“However, he told the family members that his brother was attacked and killed by bandits at Beri,” the statement read.
The statement further said that investigation was ongoing to arrest other members of the suspect’s gang
